The Little Sprouts Early Childhood Program is designed as a general education option for preschool students who have been identified as needing special education services. The class is led by a dual licensed Special Education/Regular Education Teacher and is supported by a Special Education Assistant, Occupational Therapist, Physical Therapist, and Speech and Language Pathologist.
The Marshall Early Learning Center is looking for three year old peer models to join our Little Sprouts Program!
What is a peer model?
A peer model is a child without a disability who displays typical development and behavior in a classroom setting. A peer model enhances the educational experience of a student with special needs by acting as leader, a helper, and a friend. Peer models provide wonderful learning experiences for our early learners with delays in development by modeling appropriate school behaviors such as sharing, turn-taking, participation, self-advocacy, and language. In return, our peers learn confidence, empathy, and school readiness skills. Students in the Little Sprouts Early Childhood Program will participate in a variety of developmentally appropriate activities.
What is expected of a peer model?
Children being considered as peer models for the Little Sprouts Program must first participate in a preschool screening. The screening will examine skills and abilities in the following domains: communication, gross motor, fine motor, problem-solving, and personal/social. Peer models must be 3 years of age on or before September 1st of the current school year.
When will Little Sprouts meet?
Classes will meet Tuesday and Thursday from 12:20-3:20. Classes may add a day (Wednesday) during the second semester of the 2025-26 school year as we get closer to preparing for students to enter 4k. The Little Sprouts Program follows the Marshall School District calendar including breaks and non-school days.
Transportation
Families must provide their own transportation to and from school. Students can ride the bus home with a sibling.
